The opening ceremony of the 10th Inner Mongolia fitness sports meet was held in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia autonomous region on April 21, drawing more than 6,000 people across the region.
The ceremony also saw the unveiling of flag, emblem and mascots of the sports tournament.
The sports games, organized by the Hohhot municipal government's Inner Mongolia Sports Bureau, will conclude at the end of December.
The event will hold 15 activities including hiking, basketball, martial arts, cycling – and Shatar tournaments, also known as Mongolian chess – across the region. It is expected that over 50,000 people will attend the sports games.
Shi Liming, deputy director of the regional sports authority, explained that the sports meet aims to encourage more participation in sports and bring health by local residents.
