More than 170 passengers traveling from Cambodia successfully completed customs clearance in less than half an hour on April 23 – as a result of the successful streamlining of the process -- reported the Baotou Daily.
“Since the Baotou Donghe Airport was put into use in November last year, and with the introduction of new measures starting last year which ensure that it takes no more than 30 minutes for Chinese passengers to go through immigration clearance, our entry and exit customs clearance is faster and the average time is 30 seconds,” explained Yin Hongxia, a staff member at Baotou Donghe Airport.
The convenient and smooth entry and exit makes passengers feel that it is easier to travel abroad.
Wang Xiufen, one of the passengers returning to Baotou from Cambodia, praised the initiative, and said that now she was able to go through immigration procedures very quickly. The overall time for the formalities is similar to that of a domestic air route, she added.
Baotou, the largest city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has a unique geographical advantage. It is an important air corridor that cooperates with Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, connecting to Russia and Mongolia.
Since its opening in 2016, the Baotou border entry and exit checkpoint has undertaken the border inspection missions for ingress and egress. In 2017 alone, the inspection volumes reached more than 70,000 person-times, ranking it the busiest of the district.
