A Kaihua paper-made gravure engraving stamp is set to make its debut at the world philatelic exhibition STOCKHOLMIA 2019 to be held in Stockholm, capital of Sweden on May 23.
The event will also mark the first appearance of traditional Chinese handmade paper on an international stage.
The stamp Sweden Sailing Ship is made by world-famous stamp and bank note engraving master Martin Morck, who has designed stamps, bank notes and commemorative artworks for the United Nations and many countries.
Morck is quite positive about the application of Kaihua paper to stamp making, noting that the paper is capable of presenting the best results of engraving.
Therefore, he plans to showcase his latest Kaihua paper-made work at the STOCKHOLMIA 2019.
"Although it is our country that invented papermaking, foreign stamps have never been made on Chinese paper over the past 100 years of their history," said Liu Yang, a collector of rare ancient Chinese and western books, who promotes Kaihua paper internationally.
In recent years, Kaihua paper has been used in ancient book repair, calligraphy, paintings and stamp making.
Liu said that Kaihua paper is a specific paper for books, engravings, repairs, calligraphy, and paintings, and will fulfill its potential in modern art products.
