"The Kingdom of Tonga will strive to launch a direct flight to Xiamen as soon as possible," said Semisi Sika, deputy prime minister of the Kingdom of Tonga.
Sika made the remarks at a meeting with Han Jingyi, deputy mayor of Xiamen, during his visit to the city in Fujian province to take part in the 2019 Xiamen International Leisure Tourism Expo from April 18 to 20.
He said that Tonga will increase its tourist capacity by accelerating the construction of tourism infrastructure and strive to launch a direct flight and ship to Xiamen.
Han said that a direct flight between Xiamen and Tonga is hugely important since the two sides enjoy strong tourism, culture and trade prospects.
Han also said that the leisure tourism expo is one of the most influential platforms in China when it comes to promoting tourism, and Tonga is sure to see results from its participation.
Sika agreed that the leisure tourism expo is beneficial to Tonga when it comes to promoting travel destinations to Chinese tourists, and he expects to attend similar events in Xiamen in the future.
The Kingdom of Tonga made its debut at the leisure tourism expo on April 19. The exotic dances and exhibitions of beautiful scenic spots from the island country attracted many curious eyes.
