China-Germany AI center unveiled

The China-Germany Center for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and its incubation center were unveiled in Putuo on April 17.

In-depth collaboration will be carried out in the fields of AI and augmented reality (AR), in line with the "Industry 4.0" and "Made in China 2025" strategies.

Shanghai Government Deputy Secretary-General Shang Yuying, Putuo Director Zhou Minhao and Ammar Alkassar, government representative of Germany’s Saarland as well as other officials from both sides attended the ceremony.

The two centers are an important platform for Shanghai's as well as the district's layout for AI development, Zhou said, and the “Smart Putuo” project will serve to boost wider application of AI in building a smart city.

Putuo also looks forward to opportunities and development brought about by the cooperation, Zhou commented.

The 7th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair is on until April 20. Saarland, as the overseas host, will showcase mainly AI and life sciences.

During the fair, a cooperation memo will be signed between Saarland and Putuo governments to work on the AI project.
