China's Li Fabin won three gold medals in the men's 61kg division at the Asian championships in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, on April 20.
Li, the 2011 world junior champion at 56kg, lifted 141kg in the snatch and 171kg in the jerk for a total of 312kg to take triple gold.
The 26-year-old failed in an attempt to jerk 175kg and break the world record of 174 set last year by Eko Yuli Irawan of Indonesia.
"I really wanted to break the record, but I was too nervous and emotional," said Li.
Irawan, gold medalist at last year's Asian Games, failed in two attempts to top Li in the jerk. His total of 299kg was third, behind Li's teammate Qin Fulin, who lifted 302.
