East China's Zhejiang province released a five-year plan for the revitalization of rural areas on April 17.
Xu Xing, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission, said at a news conference on Wednesday that the plan, jointly compiled by several government departments, mapped out a blueprint for the province's first stage of rural revitalization, which is slated to last from 2018 to 2022.
The official plan lays out seven key tasks, including developing a high-quality rural economy, stepping up construction on "beautiful villages", creating a thriving cultural market, improving rural governance and quality of life, and promoting the integrated development of rural and urban areas.
Zhejiang is aiming to realize the comprehensive revitalization and modernization of rural areas by 2035, and hopes to reach the level of agriculturally developed countries by 2050.
