Step by step, international jets tiptoe toward Zhuhai

Domestic and foreign business jets with flight crews and passengers may utilize a short-term facility at Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport through Aug 30, according to the Port Administration Office of Guangdong Province.

This is the fifth time since early 2016 that the business-jet-only port has been allowing flights between Hong Kong and Zhuhai. That temporary approval was seen as a first step toward international operations at the airport, which is otherwise restricted to domestic flights.

Along those lines, the 2019 Zhuhai Government Report emphasizes opening the airport to the outside world thanks to its relationship with Hong Kong International Airport. Then, it is assumed, the Greater Bay region would see increased commerce and higher growth in the aviation sector.

Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport's operation unit is working with the city Bureau of Commerce and State inspectors to determine what routes to apply for and how to handle them.  

International flights to Zhuhai would significantly enhance air transport in the Greater Bay Area, just as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has facilitated road transit.
