Dongtian Park was built in 1187 during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). It is the oldest park in Hainan province and reputed as "the No 1 scenic spot of Hainan Island over the past 800 years" for its unique mixture of ancient history, coastal scenery, folk customs and recreational activities.
Dongtian Park is located at the foothills of Nanshan Mountain, where the area is widely scattered with thirty thousand "Nanshan Old Pines". It has been listed as a plant protection site by UNESCO and one of its rare and precious tree species is under national second-class protection.
Those trees and the park as a whole fully express the eternal wish "to live as long as the Nanshan Mountain Old Pines" and constitute a domestic unique natural and cultural wonder.
The Sanya Natural History Museum, located in Dongtian Park Scenic Area, is the only nature museum in southernmost China. The museum depicts life of 140 million years ago, mainly dinosaur fossils. Over 2,000 specimens, including 800 national high-quality ones, are enshrined in the museum.
Little Moon Bay Resort is located in the southeast of Dongtian Park, which is China's southernmost coastal ecological holiday resort. Nestling beside the sea, this resort was built with a beach bar, wooden cottages and room for tenting. It is a tourist destination for honeymoons, wedding photography and camping.
