The 16th Harbin International Furniture and Woodworking Machinery Exhibition was held at the Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Center from April 15 to 17.
Sponsored by the government of Harbin, the three-day expo had as its theme "new starting, new future and new hope." Organizers said it showcased furniture from the Northeast China region and served as a platform to boost communications and exchanges within the furniture sector.
Covering an area of 78,000 square meters, the event set a new record with more than 550 exhibitors participating and 10,000 newly-launched furniture products on display -- much larger in scale than similar events held before. By the second day of the event, the number of visitors had already reached 35,000.
The exhibition consisted of 10 exhibition halls exhibiting items involving solid wood furniture, panel furniture, customized furniture, office furniture, home accessories, raw and auxiliary materials, and woodworking machinery and accessories.
This year, the exhibition highlighted the promotion of the traditional Chinese furniture design and manufacturing, with some representative Chinese furniture designed by students from Northeast China Forestry University on display. The latter featured furniture made from ebony, using a technique with a history of 10,000 years, and Chinese furniture with traditional mortise and tenon joints.
