Shenzhen American International School (Since 16 May 2005)
Shenzhen American International School (SAIS) was established upon the approval of both the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province in May, 2005. SAIS provides quality education services to foreign nationals as well as students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
SAIS provides educational services to children from preschool through eighth grade, using American standards. SAIS believes in the axiom of “minds-on, hands-on, hearts-on” which means that not only do students need to read, listen and study to learn, they need to create products and performances that demonstrate the application of their learning and to become passionate about learning. This is why SAIS uses Project Based Learning (PBL) as its educational model and a Montessori inspired curriculum which gives students an excellent academic foundation and develops independence.
SAIS has developed a PBL pathway to higher education in America. With this Pathway Education Network, its students have the opportunity to continue their education in America at a high school that implements a Project Based Learning approach.
SAIS is located on the west side of SiHai Park, adjacent to the Shekou Youth Center and across from the Shekou Sports Center. The park is a 13.5 hectares learning lab for the study of flora, fauna, climate, air and water quality, as well as micro environments. Learning in the park is not limited to science, as the prospects for math, humanities, physical activity and the arts abound in Sihai. SAIS student have access to both the Shekou Youth Center facilities and the athletic areas at Shekou Sports Center.
