Gegentala Grassland, which means "vast and bright grassland" in the Mongolian language, is located in Siziwang Banner, Ulaanqab, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. It is 140 kilometers from Hohhot, capital of the autonomous region and 200 km from downtown Ulaanqab. For anyone staying in Hohhot, it's a must-visit attraction.
The attraction is ideal for people looking to escape the summer heat, as the grasslands are at their best at that time.
Also, for visitors looking to experience a taste of the local culture, every August, a Nadam fair is held there. The event features a number of traditional Mongolian activities, including Aobao worshipping ceremonies, campfires and parties.
The grassland first opened to tourists in 1979 and was quickly listed as a national 4A-level tourist attraction –– the only grassland scenic spot to hold such an honor.
