A new institute engaging in research on energy conservation and environmental protection technology related to aluminum unveiled its nameplate in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, on April 2.
The national-level research institute, which is affiliated with the Shenyang Aluminum and Magnesium Engineering and Research Institute, was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on Jan 31, 2019.
It covers an area of 3,100 square meters and consists of a a simulation center, a remote diagnosis and service center, an environmental lab, an aluminum lab, an aluminum electrolysis lab, a carbon lab, an electrical and automation lab, and several scientific research transformation and commercialization bases.
Focusing on current issues in the development of the national aluminum industry, the center will carry out research and development of key advanced technologies for the aluminum industry.
According to a work plan, by the end of 2022, the center hopes to make more than six major scientific or technological breakthroughs, hold 80 national patents, and earn more than 600 million yuan ($89.34 million) from the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
