Kunming International Cultural Tourism Festival & Kunming Carnival

Firstly held in 2000, Kunming International Cultural Tourism Festival has now become the most important international tourism and investment activity in Yunnan province.

It is held every year during the May Day holiday and lasts for five days, along with a 3-day carnival. During the festival, brightly dressed actors would perform folk songs and dance steps on the large float parading around the city, making it a veritable “sea of carnival”. Many other activities include night float parade, ethnic song and dance performance in the square, and Yunnan ethnic snacks banquet in the streets.

The festival strives to highlight the characteristics of national culture in different styles, and fully display the tourism resources in characteristic Yunnan. Sightseeing, celebrations of ethnic diversity, cultural events, the tasting of delicacies and shopping are among the colorful activities. During the event, visitors will be able to take their fill of the area’s customs.
