The total scale of ultra-high definition video industry in south China's Guangdong Province is expected to exceed 800 billion yuan (around 119 billion U.S. dollars) by 2022, a local official has said.
The annual output of 4K televisions will reach 40 million units by 2022, Yang Pengfei, deputy head with Guangdong's Industry and Information Technology Department, said Monday at a work conference held in Shenzhen.
Yang said Guangdong plans to foster three world-class ultra-high definition video industrial clusters, following a good growth momentum of the industry in recent years.
The province has opened a 4K TV channel, with 4K users reaching 15.9 million households. The number will reach 23 million by 2022.
To boost the growth of the 4K industry, Guangdong will speed up the construction of 5G-led information infrastructure, release policies and measures to support faster development of 5G, and promote the coverage and commercial use of 5G networks in the core urban areas of Guangzhou and Shenzhen in 2019, Yang said.
