The city of Nanning released a new e-citizen card on March 28, with the card having the same functions as the Nanning Citizen Card.

Holders of the new card are able to use its functions to pay bus fares using only their smartphones.

The e-card can also be used for identification, acquiring electronic certificates and making e-payments.

Local residents can download the Wechat, Shiminbao (市民宝), Chuxing Nanning (出行南宁) and Inanning (爱南宁) Apps and link a bankcard to their account. Passengers paying via their phones are also able to enjoy a 10 percent discount.
