The locations of the 15 first-class ports of Shenzhen, Guangdong province

On Shenzhen's 225-kilometer coastline and the 27.5-kilometer stretch bordering Hong Kong, Shenzhen has 15 first-class ports open to the public with the approval of the State Council. First-class ports allow Chinese and foreign nationals, cargo, goods and vehicles to directly enter the country through passenger and cargo ports on sea, land and air.

The six land ports are: Luohu Port, Man Kam To Port, Huanggang Port, Shatoujiao Port, Shenzhen Bay Port and Futian Port. The water transport ports are: Yantian Port, Daya Bay Port, Meisha Port, Shekou Port, Chiwan Bay Port, Mawan Bay Port, Dongjiaotou Port, and Dachan Bay Port. The only air port is Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.

Among all these ports, Luohu is one of the largest for passengers entering and leaving the Chinese mainland, Huanggang is the comprehensive road port for passengers and goods with the largest number of goods entering and leaving China. Man Kam To Port was the earliest port open to the world, while Futian Port was the first subway port on the Chinese mainland that was connected to Hong Kong. Yantian Port is one of four international deepwater ports in China, and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport was the first airport built in China with local investment.

In 2016, 239 million people entered or left China through Shenzhen ports, with a daily average of 650,000 person times, while the number of inbound and outbound vehicles was 15.69 million, an average of 43,000 vehicles per day. Container throughput at Shenzhen ports was 2,397,400 TEU, and that of import and export cargo was 18,041,700 tons. The number of inbound and outbound passengers at Shenzhen Airport was 2,863,400, a year-on-year increase of 25.6 percent, and international air cargo was 253,400 tons, up 18.4 percent year-on-year.
