Nantong's LNG receiving capacity reaches 8-year high

BW PARIS, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) container ship from Sabine Pass, docked at the Yangkou Port PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Receiving Station in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province on March 19, unloading 153,000 cubic meters of LNG.

Over the past eight years, Yangkou port has received 303 LNG carriers from 25 countries including Australia, Norway, and Russia, with its total receiving capacity reaching a record 25.2 million metric tons.

With the demand for clean energy increasing in recent years, the receiving terminal at Yangkou Port has been playing a pivotal role in supplying LNG to Jiangsu province and cities throughout the Yangtze River Delta region.

“Yangkou Port is expected to ship 2.5 billion cubic meters of LNG over the first quarter of this year,” said Liao Xiaochen, a manager at PetroChina LNG Co Ltd. 

According to Liao, Yangkou Port is expected to host the Yamal LNG project this year.

He explained that the project, as a key part of China's proposal to build a Polar Silk Road, will greatly contribute to the domestic LNG supply.

Since its establishment, the LNG receiving terminal at Yangkou Port has engaged in peak shaving and successfully carried out its mission of supplying clean energy.

The third phase of the terminal, with a planned capacity of 6.5 million tons of LNG, will begin operating in 2020.

The new phase is expected to play a significant role in improving maritime oil-gas paths, developing clean energy, and providing the Yangtze River Delta region with natural gas.
