A ceremony was held to mark the start of operations at Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone on March 28.

The event took place at Ordos Airport Logistics Park and was attended by Yu Renjie, vice-mayor of Ordos; Siqinbilige, mayor of Ordos; Sun Zhi, deputy director of Hohhot Customs; Zhang Zhongzhi, secretary-general of Ordos; Wang Sheng, deputy secretary-general of Ordos; Ma Xiaogong, director of Ordos Customs; Bian Dong, director of the management committee of Ordos Airport Logistics Park, and a number of other representatives.

While speaking about the plans for the bonded zone, Bian Dong vowed that more efforts would be made to accelerate the development and opening-up of the area.

“A standardized logistics center covering an area of 20,000 square meters will be built to meet logistics needs,” Bian said.

We will also vigorously promote bonded processing, logistics and services in the area, he added.

The comprehensive bonded area is a special customs supervision area which serves as a bonded port area for inland areas. Similar to the bonded port area, it is a special zone with the highest level of openness, the most generous preferential policies, high-quality infrastructure and streamlined procedures.

At the end of 2012, Ordos started applying for approval to build a comprehensive bonded zone. In 2017 the State Council agreed to construction of the zone, the first comprehensive bonded zone in the urban agglomeration consisting of Ordos, Baotou and Hohhot.

With an area of 1.21 square kilometers, Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone is located in Ordos Airport Logistics Park. Ordos aims to build the bonded zone into a significant international logistics distribution center, a transaction center for bulk commodities and a processing base for the manufacturing industry over the next three to five years.

Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone hopes to reach $2 billion in foreign trade volume by the end of 2020.
