How to get to the offshore islands of Pingtan

As an island city in Fujian province, Pingtan has 126 islands. Nine of these islands have permanent residents and surround Haitan Island, the main island of Pingtan: Yutou Island, Gu Yu, Xiaolian Island, Dalian Island, Xiaoxiang Island, Dongxiang Island, Tang Yu and Cao Yu.

Ten other islands – Sanbai Island, Sanzhou Island, Dasong Island, Dahuai Island, Heng Yu, Laoluo Yu, Jiangshan Island, Niushan Island, Dongjia Island and Nanheng Island – only have seasonal residents.

These 10 islands are not suitable for visitors. Dongjia Island is only recommended for professional camping enthusiasts.

If you want to go to Yutou Island, Gu Yu, Xiaolian Island or Dalian Island in northwest Pingtan, you need to take ferries from Suao Port.

Departing time from Yutou Island to Pingtan: 7:00 14:00 (45-minute trip)

Departing time from Pingtan to Yutou Island: 9:00 15:00 (45-minute trip)

Departing time from Pingtan to Dalian Island: 8:00 9:00 10:00 11:30 13:30 15:00 16:30

If you want to go to Xiaoxiang Island or Dongxiang Island in northeast Pingtan, you need to take ferries from Liushui Port.

How to travel on the main island of Pingtan

Rental cars: You can rent a car at Fuzhou or at Pingtan.

Buses: The public transport system in Pingtan is not well developed, so it is recommended that you rent a car or call a taxi.

Taxi: Didi Dache, an app used for ordering a taxi, is available in Pingtan.

Double-deck bus: You can take the double-deck bus in Pingtan from Haiyu Square at Longwangtou beach. The bus has two lines each heading north and south. The two lines cover several landmarks in Pingtan such as Haitan Ancient City, Aoqian Taiwan Town, Tannan Bay and Beigang Village. The north line may take you 71 minutes while the south line may take 150 minutes.
