The ground-breaking ceremony for the Taishan technical college was held on March 21 in Daiyue district of Tai'an, East China's Shandong province.
With a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($224 million), the project covers an area of nearly 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) and will accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 students. Its construction period is from March 2019 to March 2024.
The new campus will be jointly run by the Shandong University of Science and Technology and the Chongqing Xiangmei Education Investment Co Ltd.
According to a local official, the new campus will promote the upgrading of Daiyue district's education and cultural environment and contribute to the development of the local tertiary industry. The new campus will also bring demonstration effects for Shandong's education system reform.
