Jinan, capital city of East China's Shandong province, has ranked among top five China's happiest cities for the first time in the latest China's Economic Life Survey.
The list was based on the local residents' sense of identity, belonging, safety and satisfaction and also appraisals from other people.
Jinan, one of China's megalopolises and deputy provincial cities, is also the political, cultural, educational, economic, transportation and scientific and technological center of Shandong province.
Jinan is home to numerous springs and weeping willows, leading to some rather distinct scenery particular to the city. The beautiful natural scenery and numerous places of interest make Jinan one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in China.
Xiamen and Ningbo in Zhejiang province, Weihai in Shandong province and Suzhou in Jiangsu province are also included in the top five cities.
