"We hope that the Cross-Straits Paper Art Expo will inspire more creativity between paper artists and participants from Chinese mainland and Taiwan," said Xia Min, honorary president of the expo's organizing committee in a recent interview with Xiamen Daily.
The expo is expected to showcase paper artworks from various fields to help visitors learn about the application of paper art in working, daily life and science, according to Xia.
She also noted that different from the traditional handicraft shows, the paper art expo will organize interactive activities to inspire visitors' enthusiasm for paper art, including a paper art creative design competition and a creative fair.
Xia believes that the significance of cultural and creative products is to apply them to daily life, such as paper furniture and paper art decorations and she expects more artists to join the paper art industry.
The Cross-Straits Paper Art Expo is an important project of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council to conduct exchanges with Taiwan.
The second edition is scheduled to take place in Xiamen, Fujian province from March 22 to 25.
With an exhibition area of 11,000 square meters, the expo will welcome more than 190 companies and universities, 170 paper artists, and 60 paper art studios from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
