Marine equipment manufacturing industry

In recent years, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, has promoted the construction of a number of industrial parks and public service platforms for the development of the marine equipment manufacturing industry, including China (Zhoushan) Marine Science City, Zhairuo Mountain Oceanic Science and Technology Demonstration Island, and National Ship Armored Product Quality Inspection Center.

In 2012, the provincial High-tech Industrial Park and Zhoushan Ship Equipment High-tech Industrial Park were also established and listed as Zhejiang Ocean Electronic Information Industry (Zhoushan) Demonstration Bases.

Major manufacturers have been exploring a new industrial mode of intelligent shipbuilding. They formulated and implemented a machine substitution plan, introducing advanced and applicable automatic production equipment and upgrading the traditional automation equipment. The degree of automation and efficiency of production have been constantly improved.

Jinhai Heavy Industry Co Ltd, a private shipbuilding company, has built a shipbuilding information management platform with independent intellectual property rights to make full use of cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, big data and the internet of things. Traditional shipbuilding process equipment and production processes have been further transformed and optimized.

As a pillar industry of Zhoushan, the marine equipment manufacturing industry has been bolstered by its strong shipbuilding capacity and long-term accumulation of technology, talents and market networks. The transformation and upgrading of the shipbuilding industry are well underway. To accelerate the development of the marine engineering equipment industry, the local government will support a number of leading enterprises with technical strength and innovation ability by cultivating and guiding them to expand into the offshore industry.

Several enterprises in design, development and special equipment manufacturing, mainly from Japan and South Korea, will be introduced to Zhoushan. A marine equipment industry chain will be formed integrating research and development (R&D), design, module manufacturing, equipment supply, assembly integration and technical services.

Zhoushan is about to select sites for the construction of 13 tidal power stations. This is an essential move to reach the commanding heights of the global tidal energy technology equipment manufacturing industry. According to the plan, by 2030, Zhoushan will build the largest and most characteristic trend energy development and utilization base in the country.
