The Puqian Bridge in Hainan is almost complete and will soon open to traffic with a new name: the Haiwen Bridge.
Located in the Puqian Bay area in northeastern Hainan Island, the bridge is the most earthquake resistant and has the fastest basic wind speed of any bridge in the nation. It is also the first large bridge in China to span a geological fault zone.
The bridge spans about 5.6 km and links Puqian town, Wenchang with Yanfeng town, Haikou. The main bridge is 460 meters long and is designed to support speeds of up to 80 km per hour.
The bridge has attracted great attention since planning began. For Hainan, it is the largest single-tower and double-cable-plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge, with the highest investment.
