Construction will soon begin on a film and television park in Haikou, Hainan province, according to the local development and reform commission.
The project is expected to bring in more than 100 enterprises and studios employing over 5,000 people. It aims to become a first-class national film and television center and a new driver of economic growth.
The park, located in Haikou's Xiuying district, will cover a total area of 30,997 square meters and have a floor space of 126,978 square meters. It will include three film studios and a service center. Construction is expected to last from March 2019 to June 2020 and will cost 850 million yuan ($126.52 million).
The park will be positioned as a cultural production center that engages in post-production editing, animation designs, video game development, and movie marketing. A film and television service-oriented industry cluster will be introduced in the park to upgrade and improve the domestic cultural industry.
In order to attract more innovative start-ups and talents, special systems for video production, innovative projects, integrated service support, animated filmmaking, and cultural communication between insiders will be implemented.
It is a positive sign that the park has already achieved cooperation with the Beijing Film Academy, the Communication University of China, and numerous prestigious film and television enterprises.
