With the approach of spring, the time to enjoy beautiful natural scenery is coming closer. Yantai in East China's Shandong province, located in hilly areas, boasts numerous forest resources. Climbing mountains on weekends is a good way to escape from the noisy city and enjoy silence and peace, as well as get some exercise.
Here are some recommended places for mountain climbing in the city.
Yantai Mountain
Yantai Mountain, though only rising 42.5 meters above sea level, is the most famous landmark in Yantai city. The mountain is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and combines coastal scenery, ancient cultural relics and natural landscape in one venue.
It is considered an important birthplace of the city's history, witnessing major social changes in modern times. It still has Asia's largest and best-preserved foreign consulate architectural complex, which was built in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Another city landmark – the lighthouse – stands on top of the mountain.
