Police from the Pudong New Area carried out a promotion campaign on pedestrian and non-motor vehicle traffic safety regulations in the Biyun International Community on Sunday.

Many foreign residents of the community gathered together and listened to police officers as they explained the traffic regulations regarding electric bike registration and parking of non-motor vehicles on sidewalks in fluent English.

Since December 1, 2018, the Pudong New Area has carried out a crackdown on traffic regulation violation by pedestrians and non-motor vehicles, and a dozen foreigners have been fined.

On February 20, a foreign youth was fined by local traffic police officer Qu Shuhan for riding his electric bike on a vehicle lane. Qu pointed out his traffic violation and informed the youngster of his obligations and rights under Chinese law, after which the man paid the fine.

Also, the Pudong New Area Traffic Police will work with the area's Exit-Entry Administration Bureau and the Jinqiao Police Station to carry out traffic safety regulation promotion campaigns on weekends in areas where foreigners reside, including putting promotion boards and handing out brochures in Chinese and English to foreign residents, setting up promotion spots, and informing residents of their obligations and expectations thereof from the campaigns and the results.
