The achievements made in the integrated circuit industry have been eye-catching. After Beilun and Yinzhou districts were listed as two of the integrated circuit industrial bases in Zhejiang province, more than 60 enterprises were attracted to the city and a series of promising projects were settled, all of which helped to bolster the formation of an industrial cluster.

The optical electronics industry is also gaining momentum. Novel Optics Co Ltd, a Ningbo-based enterprise, went public after an IPO (initial public offering). So far, there are currently three listed optical electronics enterprises in Ningbo.
Several major projects, such as Ningbo Semiconductor International Corporation, Nata Opto-electronic Material Co Ltd and Hongshuo Technology Co Ltd, are expected to finish construction in the newly built Beilun Chip Port Town in 2019. Yinzhou’s Micro-electronics Innovation Industrial Park is now home to 26 registered corporations with an investment of 705 million yuan ($105 million).
The government invested 3.11 billion yuan in technological research and development in the first eight months of 2018. Research projects on newly developed technologies, including 5G (fifth generation mobile communication network), automobile electronics and intelligent terminals are well underway as a number of promotional forums were held in 2018.
