Jilin’s 2nd cross-border railway on agenda

The first batch of testing goods riding on the Changchun-Hunchun-Europe Express Railway arrived at Changchun Xinglong Railway Port, Jilin province on March 5.

Upon arrival, it passed an unpacking inspection conducted by on-site customs officers and a grand receiving ceremony was held simultaneously, marking a significant step towards the official operation of the railway.

The tested freight train, which departed from Kleshiha of Russia in late January 2019, ran about 7,100 kilometers while carrying 62 standard containers worth 1.3 million yuan ($193,800).

The Changchun-Hunchun-Europe Express Railway, linking Hunchun railway port with Europe directly by passing through Russia, is the second cross-border transport channel (railway) after the opening of the China Railway Express. It is expected that it will serve as a favorable complement for the east line of the China Railway Express, which is an important step for Jilin province to deeply integrate into the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, further deepening Changchun's role as a logistics hub in northeast Asia. 

In the future, the railway will undertake the export business departing from Hunchun port to Russia, providing combined lines with marine transport and even extending to the Baltic Sea, forming a complete transport channel system.
