Leshan Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone

The Leshan Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, previously known as the Leshan Economic Development Zone, was established in 1992 and upgraded to a national-level industrial development zone by the State Council on Aug 28, 2012.

Located on the southern bank of the Dadu River and along the Mount Emei-Leshan Giant Buddha scenic area, the zone, covering an area of some 80 square kilometers, is an industrial base for the nation's development of silicon materials and the utilization of their by-products.

It is also an industrial base for the scientific and technological achievements in the Zhongguancun Science Park and plays a key part in the province's "51020" initiative.

The zone has adopted a development model of "one district and multiple parks", focusing on the construction of industrial parks in electronic devices, medical care and new materials.

Relying on its favorable polices, geographic advantages and good environment, the zone has attracted a series of high-tech projects and forged an industrial system of polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic, electromechanical manufacturing and precision processing of agricultural products.

In 2016, the zone was home to 39 enterprises in areas such as new energy equipment, electronic information and biological medicine with total operating revenue reaching 46.3 billion yuan ($6.88 billion).

By 2020, the zone is expected to achieve an output value of more than 300 billion yuan, with accumulated investment exceeding 50 billion yuan and the output value for the high-tech industries accounting for more than 60 percent of the total.
