This year, Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport plans to open or reopen a number of domestic and international flights to boost its local tourism, including a direct flight departing from Yanji, Jilin province to Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The flight linking Yanji and Pyongyang was formerly operated by Air Koryo, which belongs to DPRK, for four consecutive years, but was terminated in 2016.

The flight will continue to be operated by the airline after its resumption. In the future, the airline will run three flights every week from May to October 2019, with plans to increase it to three to four flights a week in 2020.

Yanji, as the capital of Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture and a renowned tourism site in Jilin province, is located at the border of China, Russia, and DPRK. In 2018, Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport reached an annual throughput of 1.51 million passengers, up 7.18 percent year-on-year.

In 2019, the airport will open more charter flights to Republic of Korea (ROK) during peak season, and strive to meet the travel demands of passengers, providing a new impetus for tourism in Yanbian. In addition, the flight linking Yanji, Pyongyang, Jeju of ROK, and Vladivostok of Russia will also be scheduled, to further entrench the reputation of Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport as the gateway to northeast Asia.
