A guideline to boost transport development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is being drawn up, Li Xiaopeng, minister of transport said in Beijing Feb 28.
The guideline is mainly concerned with seven key tasks: to promote the construction of comprehensive external transport corridors, to build a rapid transit network, to enhance the competitiveness of ports in the Pearl River Delta region, to construct world-class airport groups, to improve the service quality of transport of both travelers and goods, to enhance the capability of traffic science and technological innovation, and to develop eco-friendly transport.
According to Li, the implementation of the guideline will help the Greater Bay Area to accelerate its construction of a modern comprehensive transport system with global competitiveness and influence, and boost the development of the area in an all-around way.
The Greater Bay Area is composed of nine cities in the Pearl River Delta region – Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Huizhou in Guangdong province – as well as Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region.
