Nansha's patent applications grow rapidly

In 2018, intellectual property work in Nansha district made a breakthrough. The number of patent applications and authorizations in the year was 9,875 and 4,521 respectively, an increase of 98.5% and 79.8% over the same period of last year. The number of invention patent applications among them was 2,830, a year-on-year increase of 76.3%. The growth rate ranked second in all districts of Guangzhou.

As the number of patent applications and authorizations has increased year by year, Nansha district has also optimized intellectual property operation services, pledge financing, and industrialization to provide assistance to innovative institutions such as scientific research institutions and enterprises.

Research institutes are the new force for innovation and research in Nansha. The Guangzhou Institute of Modern Industrial Technology, located in the Nansha Science and Technology Innovation Center in Guangzhou, has consistently produced high-quality patented technology achievements in recent years.

Last year, the number of patent applications of the Guangzhou Research Institute reached 753, including 506 invention patent applications, equivalent to 1/6 of the total number of invention patent applications in Nansha. In addition, the number of trademark registrations in the region showed a rapid growth trend, with 22,053 registered trademarks, an increase of 106.97%.

Patents are the core competitive assets of technology companies, and the successful industrialization of patented technologies will bring huge benefits. Take Guangzhou Yuanzheng Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., an incubator of Guangzhou Research Institute, as an example. The high-tech enterprise has installed air conditioning for over 12 million square meters of space, at an overall energy saving ratio over 25%. The accumulated savings in air-conditioning operations for users has exceeded 410 million yuan ($ 61.27 million）, which provides a successful reference for the industrialization of patent technology.

In order to encourage enterprises to transform scientific research results, Nansha district's support for key technology patents is constantly increasing. In 2017, Nansha district's 28 patent industrialization projects with annual values of more than 10 million yuan received a total of 9.4 million yuan subsidies.

The innovative use of intellectual property is also the exploratory direction of Nansha. According to reports, Nansha actively promotes intellectual property financial services and has built a new model“association + professional institutions + banks”for the promotion of patent pledge financing. As of the end of last December, ten enterprises had completed a total of 36.67 million yuan of patent pledge financing.

In terms of intellectual property protection, Nansha carried out intellectual property administrative law enforcement work and strengthened the construction of the Nansha Sub-center of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Center.

In 2018, the IP Court of Nansha made full use of the "Internet +" mediation mode and accepted 1,152 IPR cases throughout the year. Next, Nansha will rely on the South China Technology Transfer Center to vigorously develop the intellectual property operation service industry and form an aggregate effect of intellectual property operation services.

It will establish a high-value patent incubation and breeding center and an intellectual property value analysis and identification platform to provide evaluation and certification services for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao intellectual property standards. In addition, Nansha will complete the development of the IP network hosting platform for small and medium-sized enterprises, which is expected to be launched online during the year.
