A conference on developing a demonstration area for holistic tourism was held in the district of Lushunkou, in Dalian, a city in North China's Liaoning province, on Feb 22.
Holistic tourism is different from traditional sightseeing involving large group tours rushing from place to place. Instead, the holistic model involves slow-paced, leisurely tours involving all aspects of a destination.
A total of 160 representatives from government departments and local tourism firms took part in the conference, with many excited at the prospect of developing a new tourism model for the area.
Zhao Hongwei, the secretary of Lushunkou District Party Committee, said that the focus on holistic tourism would bring comprehensive economic benefits, utilize all the area's attractions, while helping raise the living standards of local people.
