The lithium-ion batteries made by Suzhou-based Phylion Battery Co were recently approved by the EU, making the company the first in China to meet the EU's standards of lithium-ion batteries for light vehicles, according to local media.

"Obtaining the approval is recognition of our products, meaning that our lithium-ion batteries will not be certified twice when entering EU countries," said Liu Yang, vice-general manager of Phylion's light vehicle department.

The Suzhou company's lithium-ion batteries weigh just 2.9 kilograms, a third as much as a conventional battery, and offer continuous endurance mileage of up to 100 kilometers.

According to Liu, the battery's safety and reliability are inseparable from the technologies Phylion has accumulated over a long time.

"Our batteries own many patents of invention, such as anode material and underside laser welding," added the vice-general manager.

The company currently owns 70 patents, including 18 patents of invention, and has undertaken 13 national projects.

After 15 years of development, Phylion has offered products and services to 8 million customers and 45,000 electric vehicles around the world.

In the field of light EV, Phylion has led the world in global sales for years and is the second largest supplier of the EV industry in EU.

Since 2006, three years after its foundation, the company has exported more than 3 million sets of EV batteries.

Liu revealed that the sales revenue of Phylion batteries is expected to surge up by 40 percent year-on-year to more than 2 billion yuan ($290 million) in 2019.

The company also plans to expand its overseas presence by establishing manufacturing bases in Eastern Europe and South Asia this year, according to Liu.
