Seven areas in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region were named Hometowns of Chinese Folk Culture and Art from 2018 to 2020 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The selection has been conducted by the ministry every three years since 1987 in an attempt to boost the popularity of folk culture and art.

A total of 175 areas across the country made the list this time. The number of entries has declined significantly due to increasing standards.

Guangxi earned itself seven spots on the list with its distinctive folk art items, including three-vocal-part ballades from Nanning's Mashan county, Caidiao Opera from Guilin's Yongfu county, embroidered balls from Jingxi's Xinjing town, the Yellow-Mud-Drum Dance from Laibin's Jinxiu Yao autonomous county, Niuniang Opera from Cenxi city, Guinan Tea-Picking Opera from Yulin's Bocai county, and the folk song fair of Liuzhou's Yufeng district.

Mashan county has received the honor four times in a row, and the other six areas have also won the honor at least once before.
