Conference for health cooperation in Greater Bay Area held annually

The second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Conference took place in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, on Feb 25, 2019, with a theme of "promoting the high quality development of health in the Greater Bay Area". Over 800 attendees including government officials, as well as university representatives and scholars from home and abroad took part in the conference.

The Conesus of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation was signed by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, the Food and Health Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Health Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region at the conference. In addition, 62 projects concerning the health of 70 million people were also signed.

In response to the State-level construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Conference will be held annually to promote the integrated development of health in the Greater Bay Area.

The construction of Greater Bay Area involves nine cities of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Huizhou), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Macao Special Administrative Region. The 11 cities and regions will take turns to host the conference.

Healthcare plays an important role in achieving the ambitious goal of creating the Greater Bay Area into a "quality living circle" for living, working, and traveling. By the end of Dec 31, 2017, there were 46 medical institutions established in Guangdong invested by Hong Kong and Macao medical providers, laying a solid foundation for further cooperation. In addition, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao also boast their own advantages in healthcare.

Guangdong boasts a vast territory and a large number of medical talent, offering great potential in the development of healthcare services. The province takes an inclusive and positive attitude to health cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao.

 Hong Kong, as an international metropolis, is able to provide advanced medical technologies which meet the international standards of healthcare to patients. Its systematic medical institutions also guarantee its high quality medical healthcare.

 Macao has invested a lot in medical health. Its experience in the refined management of community health is of particular interest to learn more about.

 The first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Conference was held in Huizhou, Guangdong province from Jan 8 to 9, 2018, with the theme of “building the health community in the Greater Bay Area." At the conference, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Framework Agreement was signed by officials from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, along with 26 other cooperation projects.

 The next conference will be held in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.
