Baotou festivities promote local folk culture

The 11th Lucheng Lantern Festival Cultural Festival opened in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Feb 19, with 27 art troupes from districts across the city entertaining crowds of spectators.

A naoge performance is staged on Feb 19. Naoge performances, a national intangible cultural heritage, are a type of folk performance staged one day before the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar. Each man in the parade carries an iron frame fastened to his waist with a child wearing colorful costumes standing on the top. The men parade to the beat of drums and gongs.
