Rugao port reported handling cargo totaling 4.85 million tons during January, according to local authorities.
The statistic means that the county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province has seen growth of throughput along the Yangtze River of 2.1 percent, 18.4 percent of Nantong's total.
Foreign trade passing through the port totaled 730,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 25.9 percent.
The port mainly handled four types of cargo in January, namely coal, metallic ore, mineral building materials, and petroleum products.
