Located in the eastern part of Kuqa county of Akesu, the Kuqa Economic and Technological Development Zone started infrastructure construction in 2003. On Jan 5, 2014, it was approved by the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region as a regional chemical park. It was renamed the Kuqa Economic and Technological Development Zone in August 2010, and was approved by the State Council on April 29, 2015 as a State-level development zone with a planned area of 47.97 square kilometers.
The development zone focuses on natural gas chemistry involved in the extended processing of methanol. The chemical products chains are primarily centering on the three raw materials of natural gas, condensate oil and special heavy oil. The products include oil-refining products, ethylbenzene from dry gas, styrene and polystyrene.
The zone’s industrial output value reached 18.2 billion yuan ($2.69 billion) in 2017, accounting for 82.5 percent of the county’s total, becoming a growth engine to Kuqa’s economic development and making significant contribution to the economic core along the Silk Road.
The Kuqa Economic and Technological Development Zone has shared no effort to make the energy and chemistry industry more refined and stronger. It targets surpassing 50 billion yuan in industrial output in five years to become a State-level industrial base for the fine chemical industry.
