The Xinjiang Wujiaqu Economic and Technological Development zone is located in Wujiaqu city of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which is 35 kilometers away from Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang. It was set up in 2004 and upgraded to a State-level economic and technological development zone in August 2012 after getting approval from the State Council. It has been one of the fastest-growing and most potential development zones of the Xinjiang production and construction corps and of the region.
With a planned area of 90.36 square kilometers, the zone will develop two industrial parks. Currently, it consists of one industrial park that focuses on the development of the industries of machinery and equipment manufacturing, nonferrous metal processing, textiles and garments, processing of agriculture and sideline products, bio-medicine, new materials, energy-saving and environmental protection as well as modern services. By August 2017 some 155 companies had settled down in the zone.
