Jimunai Border Economic Cooperative Zone is located in the Altay region of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. It was set up in September 2011 after being approved by the State Council, becoming the fourth State-level border economic cooperative zone in Xinjiang and the 15th of this kind in the country. It is also the only State-level industrial park in Altay.
The cooperative zone, with a planned area of 14.39 square kilometers, is located at the northern part of Jimunai County, 18 kilometers away from Jimunai checkpoint, one of China’s Class A land ports. The port is significant for foreign trade in West China and the only international passage to connect China with Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia.
The cooperative zone will be built into a comprehensive economic functional zone for development, processing and manufacturing, trade, storage, transportation and international logistics and procurement of overseas energy resources. It will also be a pilot zone to demonstrate economic development, stable borders, united ethnic groups and a harmonious society.
