The Lantern Festival, as part of the Chinese Spring Festival celebration, is observed on the 15th day of the first lunar month, which this year falls on Tuesday.
According to tradition people hang lanterns in their houses or on the streets. The lanterns depict various characters, like flying birds, leaping fishes, and flying fireworks, creating an atmosphere of festive joy. People usually come out to appreciate the beautiful scenes at night during the festival.

Shengjing Yizhan Royal Culture Lantern Fair
The lantern fair is held in the Shenjing Yizhan scenic area, Tiexi district, Shenyang, from Feb 5 to 24.
More than 10,000 lanterns and lights with the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) royal motifs are placed in the scenic area to create a festive atmosphere.
In addition to viewing lanterns, light shows, er'renzhuan (a northeastern rustic type of entertainment that includes speech, singing, dancing and stunts performed with handkerchiefs or folding fans), lion dances and yangge dances are staged during the festival, giving tourists an opportunity to sample authentic local folk culture.
