A total of 400 pure electric buses will be successively put into use in Changchun, capital of Northeast China's Jilin province, between Feb 18 and April 1, according to the city's public transport group.
The buses will be operated on lines 2, 4, 15, 88, 281, 361B, and 222, and the first 50 buses that were put into use on Feb 18 will operate on lines 15 and 88.
"Not having a gearbox or clutch, pure electric buses are easier for drivers to operate", said Zhao Yuying, who has more than 30 years' experience driving a bus.
Electric buses also have the advantage of easy starting in cold weather, no engine noise and no exhaust gases, added Zhao.
