Food culture museum unveiled in North China

Huifengxuan Food Culture Museum officially opened to the public on Feb 13, displaying abundant collections of culinary folk customs and attracting a large number of visitors.

Huifengxuan Food Culture Museum is located in Yuquan district at the former site of Huifengxuan restaurant, which has a history that dates back to the period of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) .

Built in the sixth year of the Republic of China in 1920, the most recent iteration of the restaurant is a highly representative business building from that time period, and also the only old building preserved on the former site among the neighborhood's numerous time-honored shops. It was rated as a protected cultural relic of Inner Mongolia autonomous region in 2006.

“The museum has brought a lot of food culture collections with wonderful pictures, texts, and reconstruction of scenes to present its historical development, special cuisine, as well as its unique historical significance to the Ancient Tea Horse Road and the food culture it developed in the surrounding areas, ” said Zhu Rumu, head of the district's management office for cultural relics.

The museum will open during the 12th Dazhao Temple Fair, which ends on March 2, and will offer visitors a cultural feast.
