The construction of all the venues for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games will speed up in 2019, the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) announced at a meeting on Feb 13.

Forty percent of the construction work for the new venues of Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games is expected to be finished this year, with all the extended or improved venues having started construction, said organizers at the meeting.

With "smart" a keyword at the 2022 Games, a slew of high technologies will be highlighted in the construction work by taking advantage of Hangzhou's strengths in intelligent systems, so as to present to the world a smart Asian Games.

Meanwhile, all the extended or improved venues from existing ones will accelerate its construction with cost effective measures being implemented, said an official from HAGOC.

In 2018, HAGOC compiled an array of construction standards of relevant buildings, such as the air quality test standards, in the hope to provide athletes and audiences a safe event with high standards.

Hangzhou is the third city in China to host the showpiece event, which is held every four years, after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province in 2010.
