Travelling to Taohua Island in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province during the Spring Festival holiday has been made more convenient for tourists thanks to the establishment of charging piles in the scenic area, which facilitate the battery charging of electric vehicles.

Electric vehicles have gained popularity in recent years among the public due to their low costs and environmental friendliness, and now tourists can charge their vehicles on a visit to the island.

The island started to set up charging piles in 2017 and had built nine such piles by the end of last year, which can support more than 80 electric vehicles to get recharged at the same time.

"I don't have to worry about my car running out of power anymore," said a visitor surnamed Zheng from Hangzhou, who was meant to go north for the holiday but went to the island instead after learning that there were charging piles on the island.

Zheng said that his car can charge to 80 percent of the battery within one hour and can run for more than 200 kilometers with that power.

"With these charging piles available, restaurant owners in the island also thought of buying an electric car," said a local resident surnamed Zhang in Tawan village, who owned a restaurant near a parking lot. "Electric vehicles are cost -efficient and help protect the environment."
