Located in Yangling, Shaanxi province and directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education, Northwest Agriculture & Forestry University (NWAFU) is a national Project 985 and Project 211 key development university. Its predecessor, the National Northwest Agricultural and Forestry College, was established in 1934. The university is an agricultural university with the most comprehensive disciplines in the fields of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. It has 26 schools (departments, institutes, and divisions) and a postgraduate school, with a total of 13 post-doctoral research stations, 16 first-tier disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 28 first-tier disciplines authorized to confer master degrees, and 67 undergraduate programs. Agricultural sciences ranked 18th in the US News subject rankings; agricultural sciences subject fields made it to the top 1 percent of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) global subject rankings, and agricultural sciences, botany and zoology, engineering science, environmental science and ecology, chemistry, biology and biochemistry were listed in the top 1 percent of the  ESI global subject rankings. The university has 2 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering laboratory, 3 national engineering technology research centers, 3 national field scientific observation and research stations, and 62 provincial and ministerial key laboratories and engineering technology research centers.

Established in May 2010, the College of International Education of NWAFU is the integrated management department responsible for the management of international students at the university. Since 2007, the university has enrolled a total of more than 2,000 international students from more than 70 countries in 5 continents over the years. Currently the university has established 4 programs which are fully lectured in English, including agricultural insects and pest control (doctoral), agricultural economy management (master), botanical sciences (master), and agricultural resources and environment (master); the forestry (master) program, to be fully lectured in English, is under development; the Biochemistry course was awarded by the Ministry of Education as one of the first brand courses taught in English for international students. Since 2010, more than 1,400 international students have graduated from or completed their program at the university.
