Traffic in Hainan province flowed smoothly throughout the Spring Festival holiday from Feb 4 to 10.
The island province saw a total of 1.89 million inbound and outbound passengers using 155,700 vehicles throughout the seven-day period, according to the provincial office of transportation.
The passenger throughput of the island's airports stood at 1.2 million, an increase of 3.56 percent year on year. About 599,500 of them came to Hainan for travelling, visiting friends and family, and doing business, 7.09 percent more than the same period last year.
Harbors in Hainan served 692,200 passengers and 155,700 vehicles. No traffic jams occurred at harbors thanks to advanced booking. Therefore, the port department was able to control the number of vehicles and arrange them in an orderly manner. Haikou introduced new devices to identify cars in just two seconds, greatly improving efficiency.
During the holiday, roads and railways carried about 1.58 million passengers in total. Roads were used by 759,500 people, a growth of 5.31 percent year on year, while high-speed rail served 816,800 passengers.
